The Measurement of Rights and Freedoms

Keith Dowding

There are several strands to this research

(a) Amartya Sen and modern political theory – research supported by the British Academy
(b) Analytical account of rights and freedom – joint work with Martin van Hees
(c) Empirical measures of rights and freedom – both cross national and within countries, using objective and subjective (survey based methods). Dowding is part of a team led by Paul Anand empirically analysing Sen’s capabilities approach (work supporte by the British Arts and Humanities Research Board.
